Friends School: Gymnasium for All
Detroit, MI (2003)
The project was the conceptual design for a gymnasium addition to the existing building of Detroit's Friends School.
The addition was designed to accommodate the growing elderly and youth population in the surrounding community, and to celebrate people with varying ranges of physical abilities.
The main path of circulation is an accessible ramp, and the facility offers a variety of spaces for physical therapy and rehabilitation. The design of the exterior of the addition also provides places for youth to play on the building such as swings hanging from the overhang.
