Mercy Education Project
Detroit, MI (2011)

The project is the adaptive reuse of an 8,000 square foot warehouse/office building in Detroit's Corktown Neighborhood into offices and program space for the Mercy Education Project (MEP). MEP provides after school tutoring and GED programs for girls and women. The DCDC, in collaboration with project partners, transformed the building into a facility that emphasizes the organization as a recognizable and approachable community resource. The main divider between the classrooms, library, and tutoring pods provides surfaces for MEP students to display their successes. This divider wall is also three feet thick in some areas so the younger girls can sit and read, play, or have conversations with their friends.
