WAS Beautification Plan
Detroit, MI (2014)
The Warwick, Artesian, Stahelin (WAS) Beautification Plan identified opportunities and envisioned new landscapes for the neighborhood north of Detroit Manufacturing Systems (DMS) in northwest Detroit. The mix of recommended landscape types prioritized environmental benefits, community assets and physical enhancements. The overall project had the potential to positively transform the DMS neighborhood and campus. Sustainable landscape strategies featured in the plan offered a layered experience celebrating art, health and nature. Proposed landscapes and associated development strategies also aimed to integrate the DMS campus with the surrounding community. Combined with the consideration of nearby commercial, residential and industrial properties, the WAS Beautification Plan presented a model for holistic community development.
